Hello,
We just planted a Carefree Beauty shrub rose last month. It had beautiful flowers for about 3 weeks, but since all the blooms have died, it doesn't seem to be producing any additoinal buds. Can we expect more flowers this year, or does the bush make flowers only early in summer and then just provide greenery the rest of the season? We live in southern Colorado, and teh rose gets at least 6 hours of sun per day.

Doubtless you realize this by now, but for others who may wonder it's not unusual for a just planted rose to take time establishing itself in its new location before it gets down to the business of blooming the way it will as an established shrub. Such behavior is common among the woody shrubs grown in temperate climates.

To find a current list of sources for this rose just click on "Buy From" tab and a list will appear. For East Coast gardeners, Countryside Roses (MS) and Roses Unlimited (SC) supply very nice plants. There are many other Griffith Buck roses which are trouble-free garden shrubs -- the soft pink Quietness, deep red Polonaise, yellow Prairie Harvest, and the enchanting (but somewhat blackspot-prone) Distant Drums. And hey-- TELL your local nurseries they should stock this rose.

I've noted the study name "Katy Road Pink" is sometimes substituted in lineages in place of the official name, 'Carefree Beauty'.

This seems a discredit to the hybridizer and not in keeping with the spirit and intent of organizations set up to provide rose name registration.

It seems appropriate that we honor the work of Dr. Buck and other hybridizers by crediting their work with the official registered name when possible.

Thanks, Robert

Carefree beauty is a shrub and landscape rose par excellence. Super hardy, very floriferous, virtually disease free, vigorous, has some fragrance and all this in a carefree rose that for me has never required spraying. Nothing bad to report here. I recommend it highly.

Following is the web address for Chamblee's rose nursery which has been an excellent mail order provider of roses for myself and others. I'm always happy with the product I receive and they only sell own root roses. You can also look under the "buy from" tab at the top of the carefree beauty description page here on HMF for other sources as well. Best luck! http://www.chambleeroses.com/index.html
