New Bedford, Massachusetts
United States
An article by A.J. Fish in The American Rose Annual of 1926 and titled The Crapo Catalogue, discusses and reproduces the rose list from the 1848-1849 catalog Wasemequia Nurseries in New Bedford, Massachuetts. In 1926, the original document could be found in the New Bedford Public Library. It's an interesting look at what roses people were growing in that part of the world over a century and a half ago, before the advent of the Hybrid Tea. Many of these roses were lost as early as 1926 when this article was written.

Wasemequia Nurseries was founded by Henry H. Crapo, who, in addition to being active in horticultural matters in Massachusetts, was at one time Governor of of the state of Michigan.
