Sir Abraham Hume, 2nd Baronet, (February 20, 1749 - March 24, 1838)
British politician and floriculturist, elected Fellow of the Royal Society in 1775, and a founding member of the Geological Society.
[From History of European Botanical Discoveries in China, 1898, by Emil Bretschneider, p. 211:] Hume, Sir Abraham, was a Fellow of the Hort. Soc. He had a garden at his estate Wormley-Bury in Hertford-shire, where he cultivated many rare exotic plants. (Trans. Hort. Soc. IV, 59). Florists are especially indebted to Sir Abraham for the first introduction of many kinds of Chrysanthemum and beautiful varieties of Chinese Paeonies, between 1798-1820....

[From British Naturalists in Qing China, 2004, by Fa-Ti Fan, p. 19]: Enthusiastic promoters boosted efforts to introduce ornamental plants from China. Two shareholders of the East India Company, Abraham Hume and Gilbert Slater, mobilized their resources and sponsored the introduction of numerous chrysanthemums and other spectacular garden flowers from China in the late eighteenth century.

Alexander Hume (ca. 1693 - September 15, 1765)
Eldest brother of Abraham Hume, "was a member in three parliaments for the borough of Southwark [1743-54, 1761-65 and in Steyning 1754-61], and several years an East India director [1737-40, 42-45, 47-48], and d. 15 sept. 1765...[acquired estate of Wormley Bury in 1739]
[From Bankibazar - Ostend and Imperial Factory in Bengal 1722-1744, 2009, by Michal Wanner:] Alexander Hume...lived in...Southwark...wrote and spoke fluent French, and confidentially knew continental entrepreneurs, mainly those settled in Flanders and in account with East India trade...He left the East Indian Company as a young boy. In 1720 he bacame supercargo....on the ship called Ville de Vienne...The ship left for the Coromandel Coast...[in 1724] the [Ostend] Company designated Alexander Hume as the governor of the factories in India...
Abraham Hume (1703 - October 10, 1772)
Father of Sir Abraham Hume, created 1st Baronet on April 4, 1769, commissary-general of the army, Member of Parliament for Steyning and Tregony.
Alexander Hume (ca. 1726 - May 11, 1794)
Son of 1st baronet Abraham Hume's elder brother Peter; "Alexander was many years chief of the English factory at Canton" [also 3rd in the Council of Calcutta]
From The Gentleman's Magazine, 1794, Vol. 63, Part I, p.485:]...May 11. At his house on Clay-hill, Enfield, aged 68, of a paralytic affection, under whish he had laboured several vears, Alexander Hume, esq. formerly an East India supracargo, and cousin to Sir Abraham H. bart. He married, first, a near relation of Sir Theodosius Boughton, bart of Warwickshire, by whom he has left two sons and two daughters ; secondly, 1779, the only daughter and heiress of John Adolphus Schroeder, esq. by whom he has left 3 sons and 3 daughters.
Captain Alexander Hume (ca. 1733 - November 18, 1800)
[From "Debrett's Baronetage of England", 1835, p. 191:] "Alexander, captain in the East India Company's service, died unmarried", elder son of Abraham Hume's elder brother Robert, of Charles Town, South Carolina]
From The Gentleman's Magazine, 1800, Vol. 70, Part II, p.1017:]...November...18. In Gerard street, Soho, aged 67, Alexander Hume, esq. formerly captain of a ship in the East India Company's service, but had long retired ; and, on the 25th, his remains were interred in the church yard at Wormley, the seat of his relation, Sir Abraham home, bart.
Alexander Macleod Hume
[From "Debrett's Baronetage of England", 1835, p. 191:] Captain Alexander Hume's younger sister Susanna married in 2nd marriage Alexander Macleod, esq., by whom she had 1 son, Alexander, who was in the civil service of the East India Company at Madras, and took the name and arms of Hume, by royal sign manual, dated 25 Nov. 1802, pursuant to the will of his maternal uncle, Alexander Hume, esq.
