‘Crested Moss’/’Chapeau de Napoléon’/’Cristata’: Mousseux… sans doute pas un vrai rosier mousseux, car il est dépourvu de mousse, hormis ces excroissances en crête sur le calice de la fleur… buisson anguleux à port évasé… aiguillons épars mais acérés… feuillage peu fourni, gris-vert, à larges dents de scie… fleurs identiques à celles de ‘Centifolia’ par la forme, la taille et le parfum capiteux, mais d’un ton de rose légèrement plus vif… Fribourg, Suisse, avant 1820. Semis probable de Rosa x centifolia. Award of Garden Merit RHS 1993.

Cristata Moss... distinguished by its crested calyx set in leaves like frilled parsley. Vibert received it from a botanist in Fribourg, who himself found it on an old degenerated Centifolia plant in the garden of a ruined castle...
