Chivalry  Large flowered (McGredy). Medium sized, dual purpose cultivar with about 35 petals. Red and yellow. This was the only good new rose that I saw in Britain in 1979.

'Chivalry'. McGredy 1977. ('Peer Gynt' x 'Brasilia'). Red with yellow reverse. 13 reports, 3 years, 5'. N.R.S. rating 7.0. The main complaint about this rose is that the stems are mostly too thick and are heavily thorned. All praise its health and vigor. Hutt even suggests it could be used as a small climber. Hastings and Wanganui report of fading under hot sun, while Gisborne praises its weather resistance qualities. it can stand rain very well. Hutt and Central Hawkes Bay say the bloom develop and last well when cut. Golden Bay report that it often blooms in clusters. Evidently a good healthy garden rose.

'Chivalry'. (McGredy '77) - 'Peer Gynt' x 'Brasilia'. Red and yellow blend. 11 reports, 3 years, 3ft for 1st year bushes and 5ft for established bushes. N.R.S. rating 7.2. Reports from the Southland through to Te Awamutu, speak of a strong healthy growing bush, tho the stems are often coarse and are heavily covered with thorns. The reports of established bushes like the bright colour and texture of the blooms, but say the bush needs planting at back of bed or well staked. All say it to be healthy. Only the Hutt mentions perfume and that blooms are good for picking. Te Awamutu reports that the repeat is not so good.

'Chivalry'. Gold and red blend; 5 reports. 2 years., Average height 150cm. N.R.S. rating 7.3. Gisborne: Lasts for ages inside. Outstanding colour. Stems rather coarse. Hastings: A bit of an optimist, blooms need shade. Manawatu: Stems like tree trunks - too coarse.

Chivalry (McGredy): Hybrid tea. This rose has done very well, and is most attractive. The blooms are yellow with a scarlet-red edge to the petals, and well-shaped as well. Good vigorous healthy grower. Has been named the "Rose of the Year". by the N.S.W. Committee for R.A.F.T.
