Large-Flowered Climbers of Hybrid Tea Style. ‘Mme. Édouard Herriot, Cl.’ Pernet-Ducher, France 1913. ‘Mme Caroline Testout’ x a Hybrid Tea, from which the climbing sport was introduced in 1921. ‘Daily Mail Rose’. A noted favourite; nothing quite like it in colour has been raised since. Buds deep flame-pink, opening coral pink, loosely double, starry. Early-flowering, with a few blooms later. Fragrant. 15 feet.

A vigorous climbing rose, coral with a faint yellow base. Pointed buds open loosely to semi-double, flattish flowers. Growth upright and thorny with brownish flecks on the bark. Foliage light green. Summer flowering only. Moderately fragrant. 12’x 8’ or 3.5 x 2.5m.

Mme. Edouard Herriot ‘Daily Mail’. (Climbing H.T.) A fairly vigorous climbing rose of coral-red with yellow shadings. H.T. shaped buds opening loosely to semi-double flattish flowers. 1921. (R) 8 x 8’.

Spectacular when it behaves itself, that is by avoiding blackspot, which cannot be depended on.  Although capable of a fair height, it is more often quite a short climber in England, easily recognized by its striking coral orange colour. If you see that
interesting colour, and find the plant has many large, flat thorns, it will almost certainly be Herriot. Introduced by Ketten Bros of Luxembourg in 1921.
