To those persons endeavouring to reconstruct a garden around a 'Federation' (or Edwardian') house.....
It may be that roses absent from the Brundrett 'Federation' catalogues may have appeared in the gardens by use of 'slips'. But.... What then were the 'ins' and 'outs' of the Brundrett catalogues: Only one Damask. 'Mrs. O. G. Orpen'. No Ispahan, no 'Mme. Hardy', no 'Quatre Saisons'.

p70. Ispahan conjures up visions of Vita Sackville-West and Harold Nicholson trekking through Persia. A rose from that area, it grows into a bush over 2m high and upright, the tall shoots being weighed down with warm pink blooms in late spring. With spring rains and warm spring sun, you can catch its heady perfume as you walk near it.
