In Mr. Alister Clark’s exhibit of seedling roses, beautiful blooms of ‘Gwen Nash’ and ‘Australia Felix’ were shown. The latter variety has not met with the popularity it deserves, mostly because growers will not have patience to keep it going until well established. It does not do itself justice within the first one or two years, but is invaluable for winter blooming, and Mr. Clark has decorated a banquet hall with it in June.

Australia Felix is one of our Australian-raised roses, and one that I recommend for every garden, if only for its strong La France scent, a combination of the damask and musk-rose perfume; it is well worth a place. It makes a nicely shaped bush, and flowers in masses, when, after slightly cutting back it promptly flowers again. Like the Queen Alexandra rose [the rose previously described in this article], its colour is hard to describe, but I know it to be quite distinct from anything else raised, for, when visiting the raiser's garden a few years ago, the plants — and there must have been dozens — stood out from anything else in the garden. The parentage is not known, but it would be easy to imagine the parents to be La France and Madame Antoine Mari; the colour is a mixture of the two, the reverse of the petals being deeper, in places stained as with claret with a gloss. Beware of the crank who only sees beauty in an exhibition rose — he may condemn it. Give it a trial; I am sure it will please you, and you will want more of it.
