Origin:

Bred by Unknown Dutch origin (Netherlands, before 1790).
Introduced in Australia by William Taylor, Vice-Regal Nurseries in 1865 as 'Duchesse d'Orléans'.

Class:

Gallica / Provins, Turbinata.

Bloom:

Pink, lighter edges. Mild fragrance. Average diameter 2". Small to medium, full (26-40 petals), borne mostly solitary, in small clusters, cupped, rosette bloom form. Once-blooming spring or summer.

Habit:

Upright. Light green foliage.

Growing:

USDA zone 6b through 9b (default).

Notes:

It is possible that there were two distinct 'Duchesse d'Orléans', of which the earlier was purple and a synonym of 'Lustre d'église'. 'Duchesse d'Orléans' in gardens and commerce is a different Rose than that in the early drawings.
Sangerhausen lists a light pink Gallica called Lustre d'Englise.
