Breeder's notes:
MANpurple' (registered codename) born in 1974, is the grandfather of all my miniature roses. It opens dark purple with cream reverse and when fully open, it goes to a light purple. The color varies with sunshine .
NOTE ADDED July 14th 2007: We had a week of solid sunshine and 90 F. heat and I was surprised how well the blooms stood up to the burning sun. Before this heat wave the blooms also opened very well when we had 3 weeks of rain on & off from mid June to early July.

ALSO NOTE : It is July 15th and I only sprayed my roses twice (early May and early June) and the foliage looks perfectly clean as you can see at the whole bush and one closeup of a spray just photographed 2 days ago. So look at # 3 & 4 photos from the left.

This rose laid the groundwork for things to come. It is a beautiful purple/cream bicolor and I have never ever seen any mildew nor blackspot (even without spraying for 10 weeks) on my plants for over 30 years now.
It was never introduced as it was only used for hybridizing, but it gave me the purple cream bicolor (after 15 years of trial & error) in ‘Rubies ’n’ Pearls' which is the father of all my miniature roses.
The bicolor, I am sure, came from 'Piccadilly' through its sport 'SUPER SUN'. Since the seed parent was white, it was a puzzle where the purple came from. I tried to trace back both parents in "Modern Roses", but I soon came to a dead end and did not find any purple ancestors anywhere. So it must have been a fluke, a chance in a million. I used this rose for seed and pollen parent extensively.

Now, about 30 years later !!
"APRIL 2004. NEW INFORMATION FOUND ON HMF" :
Finally, I was able to trace back both parents of 'MANpurple' !!! Under "Parentage-Bloodline" and on both parents I found the "SAME" Polyantha :'Gloire des Polyanthas'
Bred in France (1887) by GUILLOT. Bloom: Mauve & mauve blend [ARS m] blooms.
Parentage: Seedling of Mignonette (Polyantha, Guillot, 1880)
Patents:
Patent status unknown (to HelpMeFind).
Notes:
July 2007 :
After 33 years I finally decided to give this rose a fancy name ! Probably in 2008.

I suggest to read the whole, very interesting 'MANpurple' story on my web-site's "Rose Info" page.
