According to Flora sylvatica Koreana, R. Maximowicziana is a synonym for R. granulosa Keller.

However, The Plant List has R. granulosa R. Keller as a synonym for both R. majalis Herrm. and R. acicularis Lindl. Neither of these is akin to R. Max.

Yes, and R. glandulosa Bellardi is a synonym of R. pendulina L. I think The Plant List better reflects the state of botanical research.

My plant from Rosenposten is certainly not nearly thornless but very thorny. The thorns are small and quite soft and cover the branches like fur.

Photos show bristles and prickles. We've deleted Thornless.

Another piece of information: My plant (coming from the reputable RosenPosten nursery, Denmark) has been completely cane hardy in my garden in southern Finland. The winter 2014-15 that killed, for example, Polstjarnan to the ground did no damage to R. maximowichiana. So I think it should be listed as hardy to at least Z4b.
