Bred by Samuel Darragh (1932-2019) McGredy IV (before 1976).
Introduced in New Zealand by McGredy Roses International (New Zealand) in 1977 as 'Bulls Red'.

Hybrid Tea.  

Crimson.  Dark red.  Mild fragrance.  up to 28 petals.  Average diameter 4".  Small to medium, full (26-40 petals), high-centered bloom form.  Blooms in flushes throughout the season.  Ovoid buds.  

Tall, upright.  Dark green foliage.  

Height: 39" to 4'11" (100 to 150cm).  

USDA zone 7b and warmer.  Can be used for cut flower.  Disease susceptibility: very disease resistant.  Spring Pruning: Remove old canes and dead or diseased wood and cut back canes that cross. In warmer climates, cut back the remaining canes by about one-third. In colder areas, you'll probably find you'll have to prune a little more than that.  Requires spring freeze protection (see glossary - Spring freeze protection) .  

Bulls Red - Macrero

According to the New Zealand Plant Variety Rights (PVR) web page, application for a PVR Grant for this rose was made in 1976 and granted in 1979 (PVR Grant No. 39). The breeder's Reference for this rose is Macrero.

Named after Bulls, a small town near Palmerston North on the west coast of the North Island of New Zealand.
