Origin:
Bred by Dr. Walter Van Fleet (United States, before 1922).
Introduced in United States by U.S. Dept of Agriculture in 1924 as 'Heart of Gold'.
Introduced in Australia by Hazlewood Bros. Pty. Ltd. in 1927 as 'Heart of Gold'.
Class:
Rambler.  
Bloom:
Crimson, purple shading, white center, golden-yellow stamens, ages to lighter .  Blackish crimson with white eye and abundant yellow stamens.  Medium, single (4-8 petals), in large clusters bloom form.  Once-blooming spring or summer.  
Habit:
Climbing.  
Height of 8' 2" to 9' 10" (250 to 300 cm).  
Growing:
USDA zone 6b through 9b (default).  Very hardy.  very vigorous.  
Notes:
Some references suggest that R. setigera is involved in the parentage of this rose.
