Carabella, 1960, seems to resent heavy pruning so I’ve learnt to tidy her up and leave her alone.
The same goes for Gay Vista (1955). This is an arching-shaped rose with strong canes that don’t like being hacked.

Patricia Davidson, Darling Downs. Another group I’ve had success with are the Reithmuller roses. Reithmuller was from Toowoomba and a relative of his here is trying to get people on the Downs interested. From cuttings I’ve grown the following. Large trusses of small single flowers: Gay Vista, pink; and .... The above roses all have Gartendirektor Otto Linne somewhere in their breeding and have the same leaf formation and long arching canes.

Gay Vista. 1957 Unknown breeding. Polyantha Bush rose. Single, bright pink flowers with white centres, in large clusters, fully recurrent. Mid green foliage, long narrow leaflets. Flower: 5 petals, 45 mm, 12 to 35. Bush: 1.25m x 1.25m.

‘Gay Vista’. Modern. Modern Shrub. Light pink, repeat flowering. This variety can make quite a spectacle as it produces very large sprays of bloom on a substantial plant. The medium-sized flowers are single and open out from pointed buds to reveal petals that are rose-pink to deeper pink at the edges with creamy white centers. There can be as many as 50 pleasantly fragrant blooms in the cluster, and flowers continue to appear through summer and autumn. Suitable to grow in a border, as a specimen plant or as a hedge. It is vigorous, has an arching habit, and in the warm climates where it is mostly grown for sale it will grow about shoulder height with an adequate provision of tough green foliage. Zones 4-9.
