Mrs. Sue Hack., Midsummer Thoughts. ‘Betty Neuss’. Another very pleasing rose, a clear pure pink HT, very tall and fairly wide growth, so it needs a bit of extra room. It has plenty of blooms for cutting, long stems, not too many thorns, good shape and colour and a lovely fragrance. It has been advertised as an improved ‘Queen Elizabeth’ and on reflection I feel that would be an accurate assessment. It has the perfume and form Queen Elizabeth lacks (not that I intend throwing any of my Q.E. bushes out – they are too good for garden display and cutting), but I will be buying more of ‘Betty Neuss’ later, and higher or more honest praise than that I cannot give!
