Lamarque ('Général Lamarque', 'Thé Maréchal') Maréchal, 1830. Noisette. Parentage: 'Blush Noisette' x 'Parks' Yellow'. [Author cites information from many sources. Among them, these interesting entries... one from William Paul's The Rose Garden: Raised by Mons Maréchal, a shoemaker, from his window-garden at Angers. The other from Choix des Plus Belles Roses: Around 1830, Mons Maréchal, cobbler -- so it is said -- at Angers, raised this variety from seedlings grown in a pot in his window. It had, at that time, the name 'Thé Maréchal' because of its tea-like features.]

The Climbing Noisette roses, which grow to perfection in the light soils of California's coastal region, are all of them old-fashioned, dating back as far as 1830. The white Lamarque is one of the first and best of these, introduced over a century ago; it is a rank grower with good clean foliage and a profuse and continuous bloomer, demanding no attention.
