The AU patent says the pollen parent was orange-peach in color. The US patent says that the pollen parent is a semi-double floribunda type bred from Voodoo x unknown. Based on the codename it is probably Voodoo x something yellow, probably a floribunda type.

It is not the same parent found in Miami Moon, because that seedling climbs and this seedling is a floribunda.

Oh, it is far better than BRANDY. But absolutely not without faults. Mine came to me as a mis-label, I thought I bought Remember Me from Harkness, but it is Sunstruck. The blooms are amazingly gorgeous, sometimes there is a red line right at the edge the way Charlotte Armstrong has silver and Honor will also have red, so thin, so delicate............but the plant is ugly as heck. Mine throws out basals like an under-hand softball pitch, they swoop UNDER the cane in front or back and end up "U" shaped which I think is endearing. But it loses leaves in heat and YES OH YES the blooms fade to an ugly parchment-green color and the petals do not fall.............the leaves are sparse and if it gets too hot (defined by Sunstruck as 85+), it will drop leaves, it likes also to bloom on a 1 inch stem in summer.............but, like so many roses, and Kordes Perfecta and First Prize and Admiral Rodney come to mind, when SUNSTRUCK gets it RIGHT it gets it soooooooooooooo right.................I am less in love with it now than I was in years prior, but it is a very unique rose, it sure has a personality..........seeing all those U shaped basals makes me hate it less for deadheading the ugly blooms on a leafless plant in August..............I will hold my plant as long as I can because I do NOT think this one is along for the long haul...................right as it can get it...............

I have previously posted and said I liked this rose but I have since decided that despite the good form of this rose, the fading of the color while still on the bush is a fault. It is suggested in some information that I have read that it needs afternoon shade. This might correct the fading. It also has not repeat bloomed yet since the first flush and it has been a full month wait. I do have a rose of sharon bush close by so this may be a problem.

Last summer was my first year with Sunstruck but it is quickly becoming a favorite of mine. The unusual coloring is attractive and the blooms are good in size and form. I don't remember having trouble with black spot. I live near Oklahoma City.
