Notes:
Named for Louis-Nicolas Davout who became a general in Napoleon's army at the age of twenty-three. When Napoleon returned from Elba, Davout was the only marshal who had not sworn allegiance to the king. In 1813, while visiting Josephine at Malmaison, Napoleon received word that the Prussian Army under directions to capture Napoleon dead or alive was approaching and he should leave immediately. Davout bought Napoleon some time by blowing up the bridge nearest Malmaison.
