'Noella Nabonnand' rose References
Book  (1932)  Page(s) 74-5.

Wichuraiana roses and some climbers like Noella Nabonnand and Mermaid, will flower along pendant shoots, but I find the HT sports will speedily deteriorate when in such a position.

Noella Nabonnand on a verandah facing south, is consistently blooming, and is a red, with the fragrance that appeals.

How many of those who place scent as the highest virtue of a rose grow the following varieties:-….Noella Nabonnand…? Probably the reason they do not is because the defect of want of bright colour, or the fault of losing it quickly, is thought to be unforgivable, and yet they are full of the most delicious of scents…

In the following incident, [Mr J.W. Firth] has accidentally rediscovered a method frequently adopted in the old world of reclothing the lower part of climbing canes by laying them on the ground for a period while the plant is in active growth.
The painting of verandah posts made the removal of the many strong canes of a Noella Nabonnand rose imperative - having been trained so that the shoots were never allowed to go around the posts, but always tied to the face side, removal without damage to the rose was easy. The rose was tied to long battens, and let down out of the way. The temporary placing of the plant in nearly horizontal position has had the effect of causing much new growth to break away, especially from the lower part of the canes, some of which were very matured indeed, as the plant has been in about nine years, and no base shoots have been removed in that time. Now that the rose has been replaced on the posts, the new growth induced seems to suggest that many old climbers might benefit by similar treatment at a time when the sap is flowing.

Mons. J. Dupeyrat, Vice-President of La Société Francaise des Rosiéristes:
M. Nabonnand has also to his credit several magnificent climbing Teas and Hybrid Teas. Two rather difficult to classify: ‘Bardou Job’, a velvety scarlet flower, semi-double, issued in 1887 (from ‘Gloire des Rosomanes’ x ‘General Jacqueminot’, and ‘Noella Nabonnand’ (Reine Marie Henriette’ x ‘Bardou Job’), 1901, one of the best climbing roses, of a rare vigor and floriferousness, exquisite perfume, and has many traits in common with ‘Gloire des Rosomanes’. According to him, it is an error to class ‘Gloire des Rosomanes’ among the Bengals. It has no Bengal characteristics, neither in the form of flower, foliage, nor the peculiar perfume which it transmitted to ‘Bardou Job’ and ‘Comte Bobrinksy’ only.
