Papageno Hybrid Tea. Syn. MACgoofy. From McGredy (NZ) and introduced in 1990, this rose is named for the birdcatcher in Mozart's opera The Magic Flute. It is a striking mix of white, splashed and striped with pink and blood red. No two flowers are the same. It has very close-jointed, dark green foliage on a vigorous, bushy, tall-growing bush. Autumn flowers come on very long stems. ('Freude' x [{Anytime' x 'Eyepaint'} x 'Stars 'n' Stripes'])

Papageno MACgoofy. Large-flowered is one of the most attractive of the modern striped roses, the irregularity of the off-white stripes only serving to point up the perfect sculptured shape and warm crimson of its flowers. Bred from a Large-flowered Rose and as Miniature and classed as a large-flowered Rose, it grows more like a Hybrid Perpetual or Bourbon, with long, limber branches that can be pegged down in the Victorian manner.
