Origin:
Bred by Hiroshi Hayakawa / Akakawa (Japan, 1973).
Introduced in United States by The U.S. National Arboretum as 'Hakuba'.
Class:
Early Large Flowered, Group 2.  
Bloom:
Lilac, ages to white .  6 to 8 petals.  Average diameter 6.5".  Large, single bloom form.  Late spring to early summer.  
Habit:

Height: 4'11" to 6'7" (150 to 200cm).  
Growing:
USDA zone 2a and warmer.

Hakuba was originated from a hybridization made in 1973 in the controlled breeding program in Nagano, Japan referred to above. The female parent was Mrs. Spencer Castle, and the male parent was Madam Van Hote,
