Rosa Moyesii An interesting rose, combining a variety of attributes not least of which is the splendid flaggon-shaped heps of waxy red, preceded by firm but delicate single blood-red flowers with pronounced anthers. The foliage too is pleasing. Equally at home as a wall plant or specimen shrub. Int 1903. W. F.  Shade tolerant. (S) 10 x 6’.

Rosa Moyesii Shrub rose
Hemsley & Wilson 1917
A robust rose from Tibet, up to 9 ft tall, with atrong, sharp thorns and finely pinnate leaves. The blood-red, single flowers appear in June and the long, curved main branches form graceful arches. After flowering, the plant produces long, flask-shaped, bright red hips which last a long time and are very decorative throughout most of the winter. As the bush has a tendency to become somewhat thin below, it is a good idea to plant low-growing plants around its base, e.g. Hypericum Hidcote, R. rugosa Stella Polaris, Berberis polyantha which bleed well with it.
