A rose doesn't have to be new to be good, or to win. 'Mister Lincoln' was introduced in 1964, and 'Royal Highness' in 1963. They still find their way to the show bench because when they're good, they can be very, very good. That is, they meet the standards by which roses should be judged. This is particularly true of 'Royal Highness'.

p78-1 Mrs. W. Lyzaniwsky. Canada. ‘Royal Highness’. Well, in Ontario, we were thrilled if we could get 6 to 10 blooms on our 90cm tall plant in mid season. Here it grows tremendously well. One plant of it is over 2 metres tall and produces dozens of bloom all season long, however, its bloom marks badly in our heavy morning dews.

p136-6. I. R. Spriggs. Roses for Indoor Decoration. ‘Royal Highness’ (pale pink) One of my firm favourites and a must in my garden. Long stems, few thorns and a light sweet perfume.
