Origin:
Bred by Dr. Walter Van Fleet (United States, before 1922).
Introduced in United States by American Rose Society in 1926 as 'Sarah Van Fleet'.
Class:
Hybrid Rugosa, Shrub.  
Bloom:
Rose-pink, ages to lighter .  Moderate, old rose fragrance.  Medium to large, semi-double (9-16 petals), borne mostly solitary, in small clusters, cupped, open bloom form.  Occasional repeat later in the season.  
Habit:
Armed with thorns / prickles, dense, spreading.  Wrinkled (rugose) foliage.  
Height of 5' to 8' (150 to 245 cm).  Width of 4' to 6' (120 to 185 cm).
Growing:
USDA zone 6b through 9b (default).  Hardy.  Disease susceptibility: very disease resistant, susceptible to rust .

Modern Roses 10 says parentage may be in doubt because of chromosome number. Does not set hips.
