Bred by Unknown Chinese Breeder(s) (China, before 1842).
Discovered by Robert Fortune (United Kingdom, before 1842).
Introduced in Belgium by Louis van Houtte in 1842 as 'Versicolor'.
Hybrid suffruticosa.  
Dark purple, lilac edges.  Semi-double bloom form.
