22. Paeonia Moutan: versicolor.
Received from Mr. Fortune in April , 1846, from the north of China, and said to be the "Tee-lok," a greenish-white kind.
Flowers large, semi-double, or probably quite double, with large broad petals, very irregularly arranged and cut on the edges, deep purple near the base, fading to rosy lilac near the outsides. Foliage narrow and pointed, like that of the old P. papaveracea.
Requires the same kind of treatment as the other kinds of Tree-paeony. Very handsome, showy, and distinct. May 18, 1849.
Magazine  (1849)  Page(s) 237.

Amongst the many beautiful plants introduced from China, by Mr. Fortune, were a quantity of tree paeonias, which, though in some instances not answering the character with which they came, are, nevertheless, very beautiful, and great additions to this splendid tribe. In the Journal of the Horticultural Society, two are described as having lately flowered in the garden......The other is,
P. Moutan Versicolor. The flowers are large, semi-double, and extremely handsome, being deep purple near the base of the petals, and rosy lilac near the margin.
Magazine  (Jun 1842)  Page(s) 174.

Pleine terre....Versicolor, 50 fr.
