Bred by Jacques Lebougre (France, before 1842).
Introduced in France by Louis Lévêque & Fils in 1842 as 'Paul Joseph'.
Introduced in Australia by Northampton Nurseries in 1861 as 'Paul Joseph'.
Class:
Bourbon.  
Bloom:
Red, crimson shading.  Average diameter 3.25".  Medium to large, full (26-40 petals), in small clusters, flat bloom form.  Ovoid buds.  
Habit:
Few or no prickles/thorns, upright.  Light green foliage.  3 to 5 leaflets.
