I have two grafted Lady Of Shalott bushes, one in the ground and one in a pot, they are both approaching their second year with me. I absolutely love this rose, it blooms constantly, even when there are less than ideal conditions to contend with. The corals, peaches, oranges and yellows in its bloom blend together so beautifully, and the fragrance is soft but unique and fruity. I can see that this shrub could probably get pretty large fairly quickly if I let it, but I like giving it a little snip after each flush, and it seems to respond well to that. The natural shape it takes is pleasantly bushy, but with a tendency to grow long sprawling branches every once in a while, so I would recommend regular pruning. The in-ground shrub is by far out performing the one in the container, but it has more sun so I can understand why that might be the case this rose likes the sun pretty well, at least he in zone 7. The in ground plant did blackspot a tiny bit at the end of the summer, but almost all my roses did, I don't spray and I live in a pretty high humidity climate, so BS is pretty bad here in late summer, I pulled the affected leaves off and it didn't really spread. LOS was right next to one of the worst offenders (golden celebration) so taking that into consideration I would say it's disease resistance is pretty good, the one in the pot had zero disease... All in all, out of my 65+ roses, this one is definitely in my top 3, it will always have a spot in my garden.

Hi
I'm so enamored by the photos of this rose, and it seems like it will do well in PRovidence, RI
.... did you buy own root? and if so from where? Everyone I've tried is out of stock, except grafted
at a highly reputable nursury locally. Are you still loving yours? How big is it? I don't want it to be too big, but I can't get a consistent reading on size possibility, everything from 3 x 4 to a climber!!! How can that be? It's so gorgeous, I'm just over the moon about it... I might be disapointed, aferall, they are photos.py
Happy to hear any comments. I love the shape, the old rose look, and the complexity of color... many thanks.

Lady of Shalott is turning out to be one of the best Austins ever for our coastal climate. For us the color is a rich apricot suffused by gold tones. Form is lovely. Some have expressed concern about bloom size but I have had many blooms in the 5 to 6 inches in diameter range. Blooms last 4-5 days without fading. The plant is vigorous and promises to be gigantic. With periodic spraying there has been no mildew. Remontancy is superb. A rose this good is cause for celebration. By the way, talking about celebration, I believe that LOS is a better rose than the celebrated Golden Celebration.

But the lady of Shalott doesn't have the magnificent limonene/old rose scent/fragrance of Golden Celebration!
The little fragrance present contains, like more Austins, mirrh!
No mildew, no blackspot in its first year.

Jay-Jay: I read your comment too late. I already bought Lady of Shalott, I don't care much for myrrh scent, except for Mary Magdalene (more like Frankincense). Sniff my 1st bloom of Lady Shalott, it's fruity similar to my Crown Princess Magareta.

In that case, You like a fruity scent, I would suggest to buy another Austin: Jubilee Celebration.

I planted this in my Zone 6b CT garden last summer as an own root plant. It did not flower much that year but grew to an impressive size. Lady of Shalott got some blackspot like most of my roses but did not suffer much for it. We had a very harsh winter and this rose pulled through with very little dieback. This spring it's produced a very generous first flush. I have a feeling that this rose is going to be a large bush!

A few weeks ago I planted a Lady of Shallot that I got from a local nursery. It was bareroot in one of the long green pots from David Austin. Today it bloomed for the first time and the blossoms are 4-5 inches in diameter. Wow! Incredible melange of tangerine, yellow and salmon with a fruity scent. LOVE this rose!
