'Distant Zenith' rose Description
Bloom:
Deep pink, fuchsia / magenta blending, lavender reverse. Mild, carnation, old rose fragrance. 5 petals. Average diameter 1.5". Small, single (4-8 petals), in small clusters, flat bloom form. Small buds.
Habit:
Arching, armed with thorns / prickles. Medium, semi-glossy, medium green foliage. 3 to 7 leaflets.
Breeder's notes:
I consider this a first step in breeding new Kordesii shrubs with an improved color range. This should be extremely Winter hardy, as many L83 hybrids are, and might also prove to have excellent Blackspot resistance as well. My goal is to use this in further breeding, primarily, although I will evaluate its merits as a garden shrub as well. The rose repeats in cycles with a distinct pause between flushes and sets occasional hips, but this does not interfere with rebloom. I list this as a tetraploid based solely on its pedigree, although it has not been verified through testing.
This has been submitted for registration and is queued for introduction, possible as soon as 2014. Rogue Valley Roses is the nursery that is responsible for introduction into commerce.

May 2018: this rose is no longer in queue for introduction, since no nurseries have expressed interest in it. Its a shame, since its an indestructible thing.
