Breeder's notes:
The first plant of R.clinophylla came to me from my friend Narender Singh of Ranchi in the then Bihar ( now Jharkhand State) in the late 1980’s. He knew of my search for this species and when he was on a hunting trip, he had rested overnight on the bank of a forest stream. Early in the morning, he saw what looked like a rose with white flowers growing half and half out of the water. He realized that this may be the plant we were looking for, so he quickly cut some stems and packed and posted them to us. We were absolutely delighted, when, after getting them and comparing the leaves with the drawings and photographs of the herbarium specimens of R.clinophylla, we realized that this was indeed the rose species we had been looking for. We were able to make some plants, and this has been the basis of some of our clinophylla seedlings, while others have been fro the Bengal clone of the species sent to us later by Dr N.C.Sen of Asansol, West Bengal State.
So we named this particular seedling for our very good friend Narender, who sadly is no more. But he knew we had named a rose for him and he was very happy.
When we sent this rose to the USA to our friend Pat Henry who runs the Roses Unlimited Nursery in S. Carolina, she grew it and liked it so much that she wanted us to name it for her. We were happy to do so because it meant that she felt that this was a superior rose.
