Identified Rookwood Roses.  Crimson Glory, Lady Hillingdon (climbing), Lorraine Lee (climbing), Molly Sharman-Crawford,  Souvenir de la Malmaison (climbing) and Muscosa Alba are the only roses that have been lost in recent years without clones being propagated for restoration.

On June 15th, 1819, Henry Shailer, of Little Chelsea, exhibited at the Horticultural Society, London, nine kinds of Moss Roses, including his White Moss Rose.

Rosa muscosa alba ('White Moss Rose') Description... the blooms are white with a very slight pink flush -- never absolutely white. Shailer, the English nurseryman, first distributed this beautiful rose four to five years ago. It is presumed to be a hybrid between Rosa centifolia nivea and the 'Common Moss'... Boursault introduced it to France...

Muscosa Alba Moss... Description and background... this rose is identical with Redouté's beautiful portrait of Rosa centifolia muscosa alba. He calls this 'Shailer's White Moss'... 'Shailer's White Moss' occurred in 1790... the blooms are flushed with flesh tint in the centre immediately on opening, passing to pure white... occasionally a pink petal is produced... a delightful rose...
