Bred by Dr. Walter Van Fleet (United States, 1905).
Introduced in United States by Lovett's Nursery (J.T. Lovett) in 1917 as 'Bess Lovett'.

Climber, Hybrid Wichurana, Large-Flowered Climber.  
Bloom:
Carmine-red.  Clear bright crimson.  Strong fragrance.  Medium, double (17-25 petals), in large clusters, cupped bloom form.  Once-blooming spring or summer.  
Habit:
Climbing.  
Height of up to 9' 10" (up to 300 cm).  
Growing:
USDA zone 6b through 9b (default).  Very vigorous.
