I think this is a great rose all around. Long, straight stems are the norm and the bloom has "good" form and color as well as size. However. the center is not often pinpoint so while it is very "Queenly" otherwise the bloom center may hold it back. See the photo I just posted. Like Louise Estes and Brigadoon, Clair does not get going quickly coming out of winter (just a slow starter - she is hardy 2 winters in zone 5b) but a few weeks after many others have had their peak bloom Clair is putting on a show!

For reasons unknown, Japanese Beetles seem to stay away from Clair Elyse.

No growing comments here yet so I'll take the plunge. Wish I had a good picture to share but I don't. I have a first year maiden from Wisconsin Roses on multiflora planted Spring, 2021 in my new garden (Chicagoland zone 5b). Growth exceeded my expectations for a first year maiden. I planted Clair right next to Alec's Red and it's amazing how similar the two are/were. Clair has perhaps a tad more of a pinkish slant to the red bloom color but growth was quite similar. Long (and strong) stems were the norm, form was quite good (but not quite Queenly) and the blooms came one to a stem with only minimal disbudding required. For the most part our growing conditions in 2021 were hot and dry. Clair did not seem to slow down in the heat. I did not detect much fragrance. Disease-free for me with regular spraying. I believe this is an excellent rose all around.

If it improves at all in year 2 (2022) I will be looking to plant more bushes of Clair Elyse. Highly recommended.

Do you know anything about breeder John T Smith and Silver Run Roses? I gather that would be his private nursery outlet.

I personally don't know anything is this regard but I suspect you are correct. Clair Elyse is a very good rose.
