I couldn't tell from your comment whether the photo is of a rose you got from Vintage, or of a rose at Sangerhausen. It looks like 'Lucy Ashton' as described in the references, however.
I suspect that the crimson rose photographed as 'Lucy Ashton' is actually Penzance's 'Lucy Bertram'.

I wonder if anyone really can tell the difference among the pink Penzance hybrids.
I received 'Amy Robsart', 'Anne of Gierstein', and 'Greenmantle' from Vintage Gardens twenty years ago and today I couldn't tell one from another. The photograph of 'Lucy Ashton' in Anne Belovich's book looks just like my three. Is there anyone authoritative enough to distinguish each of them?

Thank you, scvirginia and Palustris, for your comments - and for bringing the rose to my attention again.
The photo I have been sharing here actually is from the rose I acquired form Vintage Roses many years ago, which alas died since in my garden. I did not yet manage to "catch" the rose labelled 'Lucy Ashton' at Sangerhausen in full bloom. The doubts set down in the caption of my photo are due to one last flower nearly gone at that time. The only thing I can state for sure is the fact that the foliage of my little specimen gave off the apple scent typical of R. rubiginosa.
