Widely grown in Northern California in the 19th century, old plants of 'Russelliana' survive around old and abandoned homesteads. Leaves are dark green with a much lighter, gray-green reverse covered with downy hairs. Stipules are both fringed and glandular. Small red hips form by late summer.
