Graham Stuart Thomas explained that "yellow pervaded to excess all tints of flower and leaf" and there is a truer reproduction of Parson's original painting in Thomas's 'A Garden of Roses'. Colour aside, Parsons has captured the look of the rose - the bud, blooms, the twiggy, prickly stems and the general posture - with great faithfulness.
