The garden is located in the northern foothills of the Apennines in the province of Piacenza. It was begun in 2002; currently, in 2012, it occupies approximately two acres and is still growing. The garden houses a sizable collection of old and older roses as well as many other plants; it is a garden with a lot of roses rather than a rose garden. My goals in creating this garden are to create a beautiful garden that is also frugal in its consumption of resources, and to house a great variety of plants, old roses above all. Plants are watered the first year after planting only; they receive a hay mulch and practically no other fertilizer. There is no program of disease or pest prevention. The garden is an experiment aimed at finding out whether it's possible to have a good garden grown employing these methods.
