New Dawn can be a very large climber even in your zone and the roots are invasive. Compassion is the right size and has a wonderful fragrance but the flowers don't last long and in the PNW is very prone to black spot. Sorry to be a carrier of such negative news. Have a look at these few and see if any appeal to you. All will do well for you without any problems and all (in my garden) are strong scented.

Jean Rex is just a beautiful rose trhat was bred by a man with ther last name of Rex. It doesn't have any connection to the David nAustin roses at all. But still it is a lovely rose for the garden.

I have Gloire de France in my garden and Lyn is right, give this rose 3 years without pruning, and you will have flowers like the photo. Gloire de France also enlarges by stolons which means the canes put out about 3 inches of horizontal roots and then these roots put up new canes. This is not the same as a sucker. My Gloire after 8 years is now 10 feet wide.

Apparently many cataloques did refer to Champneys Pink Cluster as Blush Noisette and the mistake continues. As you have mentioned, Champneys does grow very tall and only flowers once. But the flowers are different then Blush Noisette as they are usually double and well shaped. Blush Noisette is only semi double with wider petals and makes a nice lax shrub. However, given time it too will grow into a climber. Photo is of Blush Noisette

In my zone 7, Clair Matin stayed best as a large bush as it seems to want to grow that way in the colder regions. It also benefits from a little shade so the colour won't fade out. |
The chances of identifying your rose cuttings are very slim. I am a Kordes fan and grow many of his roses but even I could not tell you what the name was of the patio type plants I got.
The cuttings were about 6 inches tall when I planted them in a sheltered spot in the garden with full sun all day. They didn't do well at first but then they pushed out much thicker basal canes and also the flowers had thicker petals and looked more asttractive. These little mini plants are grown in a greenhous with an IV attached to thier pot which gives them fertilized water at regular intervals. This makes them grow well but the growth is soft because it is in a heated greenhouse. When you plant them outside, they will drop the thin l;eaves and start to produce thicker ones. Here is a picture after 3 months of a Kordes mini that had small rosette type blooms on it when I first planted it. |
