My favourite species roses are:-
Rosa macrantha...large pale pink flowers, pink buds, makes a big bending over type bush.
Rosa polyantha grandiflora (somestimes called gentilliana) very tall canes with many single creamy white flowers, also many orange hips in the fall. Good fragrance.
Rosa helenae...many single white flowers in bunches followed by bunches or red hips.

No, that doesn't sound right. Amanda Patenaude is Amanda Patenaude and Portland from Glenora is also called Joasine Hanet. However Vintage Gardens disputes this because they say that the real Joasine Hanet has not as yet been introduced from the rose repository in Sangerhausen. The mystery continues. Here is a photo of Amanda for you.

My budded Goldfinch grows like a very tall stiff bush. It increases with many basal canes which are a soft green and very stiff. This is no doubt due to the fact that it has a lot of multiflora roses in the background. The buds are yellow and the flowers are symetrically formed, start out yellow and then in a few days end up an ivory shade. It blooms only once in the PNW and has a scent of bananas and oranges ( so the books say). Goldfinch should be grown in partial shade to keep the yellow colour from fading so quickly. |

David Austin Nursery has named a rose after his grand daughter and it is called Olivia. His nursery in England will carry it. Here is a photo of his rose Olivia for you.

White Pavement sometimes goes by the name of Snow Owl and Hortico Roses, Old Heirloom Roses and Pickering Nursery carry it. If you can't find White Pavement, Pristine Pavement is almost identical except that it has soft pink buds. Here is a photo for you. |
