Albuquerque, New Mexico
About 10 years or so ago, Lee Sherman, noted rosarian and Dean of the L.S. School of Gardening, experienced an epiphany. On a visit to Sissinghurst Castle, she feel head over heels in love with old garden roses. Upon her return to Albuquerque, she dug up almost all the grass in her yard and began to plant all sorts of roses -- shrubs, Bourbons, Hybrid Perpetuals, and... stripes. (You will find them on her page under "Odd"... don't ask why... I don't know... ask her!) She seems to have a thing for the letter O. You now know what she considers "Odd". "Old" = Old Roses. "Overflow" = Modern Roses, Austins, Shrub. "Opiates" (WHAT?!?! you say?... you heard me) = Poppies (a whole bunch of varieties and in the most exquisite colors!) Whatever you do, when you visit her site, do not miss "Obscure" (no hints on this one, it'd spoil the surprise!)
Lee's garden is lovely and magical and inspiring. Don't miss it!
