[From A Heritage of Roses
, by Hazel Le Rougetel, p. 21:] A Boston merchant, Kirk Boott... made an outstanding garden there around 1800. His son, a London doctor, recalled how his father would be up by 4 a.m. to tend his frames... Grown in the greenhouse to flower in December, [roses] were taken indoors to brighten winter months and in the summer more than a hundred were blooming outside.
