The two acres of garden at Casa Rosa is divided into several main areas: the woodland, featuring the creek, ferns, dogwood, and a spring display of forsythia and daffodils which were here when we bought the house; the moon garden, featuring mostly white flowering plants such as abelia and a southern magnolia; the north lawn, where we play croquet, is surrounded with borders of roses, perennials, and other shrubs; the rose garden and potager, featuring many old garden roses; the south lawn, still in the planning stages; the herb garden, with a shrub border and beds of herbs; the front garden, where all the most vividly colored flowers are concentrated to compliment the yellow stucco of the house; and the Japanese garden, featuring a large Japanese maple.
The garden is still, and I imagine will always be, a work in progress. Follow me as I show you around and introduce you to the roses...
