The American Peony Society organizes one convention a year on a weekend, usually between June 1st and June 15th. The presentation of flowers is arranged in groups as defined in the Society's Bulletin. Awards consist of ribbons and rosettes. All members are encouraged to display some of their flowers, including seedlings. One flower grown in your back yard could win Grand Champion of the exhibit. The flower display is customarily followed by a dinner, a short business meeting, and a plant auction. The Peony Convention is a good place to discover and enjoy new varieties.
[From Peonies, by Allan Rogers, p. 3:] the American Peony Society (APS), now designated as the International Registrar for Peonies, lists well over 3,000, not all of which have been registered. The majority of these are no longer on the market -- many indeed never really entered commerce.
