Nicolas-Joseph Prevost (September 27, 1787 - September 24, 1855). Professor of botany, nurseryman, author, rose breeder.

[From The Gardener's magazine 1829, p. 372:] The Nursery of Prevost fils is the finest in Rouen. M. Prevost, whose father was proprietor of the same grounds, has had a regular college education, is a scientific botanist....we are not aware, that there is any nurseryman who, as a cultivated man, can be compared with him in England, with the exception of George Loddiges, and we only know of M. Vilmorin in France.

[From Le Bon Jardinier, 1833, p. 858:] Prevost fils, rue du Champ-des-Oiseaux, no. 68, à Rouen (Seine-Inférieure).

[From The Rose Garden, by William Paul, p. 25:] In 1829, M. Desportes and M. Prévost each published in France a catalogue of Roses. In the catalogue of the former cultivator above 2000 varieties are described.

[From Catalogue descriptif, methodique et raisonné, by Nicolas-Joseph Prevost, 1829, p. xii:]...The roses whose origine is indicated as Boisguillaume [a location near Rouen] are my [Prevost's] seedlings.

[From Annales de la Société Centrale d'Horticulture, 1851, p. 262:] ...M. N.J. Prevost, distinguished nurseryman, at Bois-Guillaume, near Rouen, who succeeded his father, also nurseryman, forty years ago....When the Société d'hortculture de Rouen was founded in 1836 M. Prevost was named one of the first....

[From The Graham Stuart Thomas Rose Book, by Graham Stuart Thomas, 1994, p. 10:] Prévost, Pépiniériste à Rouen, Catalogue descriptif, méthodique et raisonné des espèces, variétés et sous-variétés du genre rosier: his list embraces 880 names.

[From The Old Rose Adventurer, by Brent Dickerson, 1999, p. 42:]
Prévost appears to have first gotten involved with roses ca. 1811.
