On October 8th, 1820, we saw a rose of this type [Bengale] at M. Noisette. The blooms were very double, like that of the centifolia, of purple-brown colour, edged ash-colour. This is the most beautiful Bengal-Rose one can see, she comes from Florence.

Some years ago we were indebted to this rose lover [Dr. Cartier] for following roses.
...The Boulette rose, which indeed is like a sphere (boule) pressed very flat, whose purple-red, broad, imbricated and inwards reflexed petals give this form. The whole rose is arranged very well.
