In Roses Abroad: There is a Rose for Everyone, Sean McCann says nowadays there are so many different types of roses that there is a rose for everyone and every occasion and just about every location.
He discusses growing roses in Sweden and environs and recounts some stories about doing so. Apparently, there in a large public park in Oslo, Norway, 4,000 floribundas were zapped overnight one winter. They were replaced with... potatoes because there were not enough roses in the whole country.
