The Rose Amateur's Guide, 7th ed., 1861

The Noisette Rose.
(Rosa Noisettiana.)
Rosier Noisette.
...And very recently, a new rose of this class has been introduced from America, named America; it is a most vigorous grower and its flowers are much like those of Gloire de Dijon.
(1861)  Page(s) 41.

One of the most prolific varieties is Athelin, a very old rose, of which almost every flower gives its hip full of seed; this may be crossed with the China Rose, Fabvier, or the Bourbon Gloire de Rosomenes.

The Noisette Rose.
(Rosa Noisettiana.)
Rosier Noisette.
A new rose of this class has been recently raised in America, and sent to me, under the name of the Augusta Rose. Its habit is very vigorous, and its flowers are like those of Solfaterre, a fine pale yellow rose which I introduced in 1842 with Cloth of Gold.

The Hybrid Perpetual Rose
Monsieur Trouillard, a florist, at Angers, has been very successful in raising seedlings from the Géant [des Batailles]... Bacchus is another of M. Trouillard's seedlings: this has the vivid colour of the race; but like our old friend Standard of Marengo, it has not enough petals, and unless under very high cultivation, its flowers are too small.
(1861)  Page(s) 16.

Baron de Wassenaër is also a new, large,a nd finely-shaped rose, deeper in colour than the preceding [Gloire des Mousseuses and Marie de Blois] and approching to carmine: this variety is well worth cultivation.
(1861)  Page(s) 104.

The Hybrid Perpetual Rose. (Rosier Hybride Remontante.)
Carmine and Cherry-coloured.
Very recently these very beautiful carmine roses have received some additions in Lord Palmerston, The Duke of Cambridge, and Madame Heraud, all fine varieties; the colour is, however, rare: but none more pleasing; for how charming in a dewy morning, are the delicate tints of a carmine-coloured rose.
(1861)  Page(s) 104.

To these we may now add a new and, in its way, a still finer rose, no less than our old favourite Brennus, made perpetual, which ought to have been named Brennus Perpetual ; but it has been named Jules Margottin : its flowers are of the same as those of the above-named rose, and of the same range of colour - perhaps a little brighter; its habit is also equally vigorous, and it amy be pronounced one of the finest autumnal roses known.

Blush and Flesh-coloured.
And then we have Madame Ducher, Queen of Denmark, and Mademoiselle Eugénie Verdier, all excellent roses.
