Questionable rose identities, exemplified by 'Freya' and 'Creme'....
..We have Rudolf Geschwind's own description in his article on "Hybrid Caninas" [published in the "Rosen-Zeitung", 1895, pp. 24-26]....In August Jäger's "Rosenlexikon" of 1936 we find a very different 'Creme'....The rose described by Jäger is found nowadays quite often. It is a most attractive variety, due to its late and extraordinary floriferous bloom, which also convinces through its good hardiness.
Unfortunately we could find out up to now the true identity of this rose; we can only provisionally state that it is in no way Geschwind's hybrid canina 'Creme' of 1895.

'Dr. Hurta' is one of those roses which were only existant in Prof. Dr. Gianfranco Fineschi's Roseto Botanico de Cavriglia. She is the oldest of Rudolf Geschwind's still existing cultivars. ....[The authors cite descriptions from the Soupert & Notting catalogue of 1867]

Questionable 'El Areana'.....introduced into commerce by Peter Lambert after the death of Rudolf Geschwind. The descendant of R. x harrisonii is a vigorous, healthy, fully hardy shrub rose. The light yellow blooms, shaded apricot when expanding, fade to almost white....We received in 2003 from Prof. Salvesen of University of Bergen cuttings of the 'El areana' which was distributed in Norway since 1917 by the nursery Bryne in Stavanger. It is as yet unclear if this is really the rose of the same name bred by Geschwind....
