Félix Crousse (October 2, 1840 Nancy - April 25, 1925 Nancy), grandson of François Crousse (see), son of Louis Crousse. Apprenticed at Calot in Douai 1855-1865, inherited the peony collection of Calot in 1872. Also bred begonias. Félix Crousse retired in 1905 and his collection passed on to Doriat in Lapalisse. [According to Alice Harding his collection passed on to Victor Lemoine in 1898]

[From Journal of the Royal Horticultural Society, 1890, p. 424:] The principal and latest raiser was M. Calot of Douai (Nord), who inherited a large collection from an amateur, the Comte de Cussy, and continued the collection and production of seedlings until 1872, when his collection passed into the hands of M. Crousse, of Nancy, whose careful selection of varieties sent out in annual series from that date until 1879, and subsequently his own seedlings from 1882 to 1889....

[From Journal d'agriculture pratique, 1897, p. 281:] Crousse (François-Félix), horticulteur à Nancy (Meurthe-et-Moselle) : lauréat de nombreux concours et expositions. Plus de 30 ans de pratique agricole. Chevalier du 13 juillet 1887

[From The Book of the Peony by Alice Harding, 1917, p. 52-3:] In 1872 the collection of J. Calot passed into the hands of M. Crousse, who continued to send out selections from the Calot seedlings until 1879, and who later, from 1882 to 1898, introduced a large number (over seventy-five) of seedlings of his own. Under Crousse the peony was bred up to such apoint that it seems almost impossible to improve upon his work.

[From The Book of the Peony by Alice Harding, 1917, p. 54-55:] Tabulation showing successive owners of noted French collections of peonies:
Comte de Cussy
Calot, 1850-1872
Crousse, 1875-1898
Victor Lemoine, 1898-
now extant at Nancy.

[From Peonies in the little garden, by Alice Howard Harding, 1923, p. 36:] I refer to M. Felix Crousse, who - retired from Business - is living in Nancy at the age of eighty-two years...
