Yèbles, Seine-et-Marne
France
[From Desprez, "rosomane", 2015] Charles-Louis-Romain (a.k.a. Jean) Desprez, fonctionnaire, (1781 - July 31, 1849 Paris) married Francine-Emilie Bouillart (b. June 4, 1791 Guignes-Rabutin).... Charles-Louis-Romain was mayor of Yèbles (August 1822 - September 1831), where he succeeded his brother-in-law Jacques Desmonts (1770-1882)....husband of Adélaïde-Eléonore Bouillart (1756-after 1853), sister of his wife Julie-Françoise.

[From "68e Catalogue des Expositions de la Société royale d'Agriculture et de Botanique de Gand", February 1843:] Effective and Associated members of the Society...Desprez, at Yèbles (Seine et Marne)

[From Denkwürdiger und rheinischer Antiquarius, Vol. 4, 1854, p. 268:] M. Desprez, at Yebles, near Guignes, department of Seine and Marne. A traveler saw with him, in the summer of 1832, on a scaffold along the north-east facing wall, 6000 pots, 6 men high, arrayed in battle order, in each pot, sanctified in March or April, a seedling of the China or Noisette family , most in flower or in flower buds. Of these, 150 or 200 had become revealed as hybrids, and should they therefore be relegated to the free country in the near future.
Most striking to the visitor was the mass of fruit with which some bushes, especially the yellow tea, Nina, Madame Bureau, Pivoine violet and pourpre, also the centifolia, fruits whose quantity, shape and size vividly resemble the small harvest pear, sept-en-gueule. He also saw more than 200 plants of the Perpetuelle Lelieur or Rose du roi loaded with very thick pear-shaped rosehips,,,ce qui eút déconcerté sans doute les botanichons et les fleurichons, qui ont voulu prendre la forme des fruits comme caractère spécifique déterminant, pour classer les espèces de rosiers," because elsewhere the fruits of this rose regularly appear in the form of a pyramid, although they only rarely contain seeds. The observer is reluctant to assume artificial fertilization by human hands, which seems impossible to him, considering the extent of the crops, for the purpose of tilling the land, a neighbor recommended the use of the plough, the influence of an apiary of more than 40 hives, placed in the center of the rose garden, and the activity of other no less powerful apiaries, with which he marginally occupied, but the reporter believes the main reason for the extraordinary production to be of the attractive fertility produced by the accumulation of thousands upon thousands of flowers in a comparatively confined space.

[From Deutsches Magazin für Garten- und Blumenkunde, 1856, p. 168:] Desprez at Yebles near Guignes in the Departement Seine et Marne was among all rose producers the most fruitful. A traveller saw in 1832 6000 small containers with seedlings from the family of Bengales and Noisettes, mostly in bloom or with buds, and 200 shrubs of Perpetuelle Lelieur or Rose du roi, full of thick, pyriform hips.
